Debate Team

Rio Hondo High School's debate team took on the seven other schools of 32-3A in CX team debate on Saturday, January 31st at Hidalgo High School. Zapata and Port Isabel brought their state qualifiers from previous years to battle against the new Rio Hondo team, but Marissa and Hugo conquered all rivals to place second, scoring only 7 speaker points away from a first place pair of veterans from Zapata.  Marissa and Hugo will be competing against 61 other teams in the State CX Debate Championship at Austin during spring break in a two-day competition.  Jan and Darlene came in a strong 5th among the 13 teams that competed.  Rio Hondo High School is proud of its hard-working debaters who rounded out a winning season with a good showing at the District meet.

At the November 1, UIL tournament at PSJA North, the CX Team composed of Marissa and Hugo took first place, while Jan and Darlene took fifth place.
